Mentorship inside active practice
Learn how thoughtful psychiatric care happens in real time.
Lori Vasquez, MSN, PMHNP-BC
Lori is the CEO and lead psychiatric nurse practitioner at Mind Over Matter Mental Health Group. The practice delivers patient-centered medication management that considers the full person—not only a list of symptoms.
For students, that means exposure to care that is clinically grounded and relationship-driven. You can observe how providers build trust, organize diagnostic information, make treatment decisions, and support continuity of care in an outpatient setting.
Mind Over Matter operates primarily through telepsychiatry across California, giving students experience with a care model that now plays a central role in access, follow-up, and modern mental health treatment.
Our mission is simple: help people feel better, sooner—and help future psychiatric nurse practitioners learn to deliver careful, human care.
What the program includes
More than logging hours.
The goal is to build clinical confidence, professional judgment, and familiarity with the day-to-day systems of outpatient psychiatric practice.
A structured clinical experience
Know what to expect before your rotation begins.
We review your program requirements, clarify your approved activities, and connect each part of the placement to supervised outpatient psychiatric practice.
Psychiatric evaluations and follow-ups
See how symptoms, history, medications, functional concerns, and patient goals are organized across initial and ongoing visits.
Medication management workflows
Learn how medication decisions, monitoring, education, safety, and treatment planning are approached in outpatient care.
Interviews and clinical reasoning
Depending on readiness, participate in patient interviews, case discussions, and treatment thinking under supervision.
Documentation and EHR practice
Gain exposure to clinical notes, treatment plans, documentation standards, and workflows in a real electronic health record.
Telehealth psychiatric care
Experience the communication, privacy, technology, follow-up, and continuity considerations of California telepsychiatry.
Insurance and practice operations
See how clinical care connects with scheduling, insurance-based workflows, patient communication, and business operations.
Important: Student activities and eligible hours depend on the student’s level and readiness, patient consent, school approval, affiliation and onboarding requirements, privacy rules, preceptor judgment, and current practice capacity. Participation is supervised and does not constitute independent clinical practice.
